Topologies

Document Actions
We have illustrated a selection of topologies that fulfill requirements of commonly encountered customer applications.

Managed Internet

GPRS Devices are separated from the Internet by a stateful firewall which allows outbound connections, but blocks inbound connection attempts which provides a similar level of security to that provided by a corporate firewall.

Corporate Access via Internet

This Configuration is similar to the previous one, the difference being that optional filtering may be applied to allow devices at only access a selected group of Internet servers predefined by the customer.

VPN Only

This topology allows bi-directional access between the GPRS devices and the Corporate Network. Authentication and IP assignment may optionally be delegated to a RADIUS server in the Customer's Premises or handled free of charge by Suntel. Internet Access for GPRS devices may be selectively provided via the customer's own Internet connection, and is fully controlled by the customer's firewall policies. RADIUS Accounting may also be relayed to the customer's RADIUS server while still being accessible from Suntel's GPRS Customer Portal if required.

Managed Internet and Corporate VPN Access

In this configuration, access to the Corporate Network is facilitated via VPN tunnel, allowing unrestricted communication between GPRS devices and the customers DMZ or internal network, while restricted Internet access is provided directly to GPRS devices. In comparison with other GPRS operators this saves routing all Internet traffic via the customer's VPN connection and back out to the internet.

Distributed Authentication

Customers with multiple locations with a local Authentication server in each location may choose to distribute authentication to each location on a per device basis, giving localised control to system administrators in those locations.

Managed Internet controlled Application Access

This configuration allows grouping of devices and allows access to selected corporate Applications respectively. Internet Access can also be blocked for any group.

Hosted Authentication Distributed Devices

If the Customer has multiple locations with a group of devices only allowed to reach their parent location, this can be provided by using user name or MSISDN based grouping, without further investment by the customer. In the traditional GPRS configuration offered by other operations this configuration would require a separate APN per location.

Central Authentication Distributed Devices

If the Customer has multiple locations with a group of devices only allowed to reach their parent location, this can be provided by using user name or MSISDN based grouping. Authentication is handled by a singe RADIUS server located at the Customer HQ.

Distributed Authentication with Distributed Devices

If the Customer has multiple locations with a group of devices only allowed to reach their parent location, this can be provided by using user name or MSISDN based grouping. Authentication is done by the Radius server located in the the branches as well, this may be supported by realm, username or device based.
